Because of the crisis in Syria, hondreds of people try to enter the Netherlands everyday. Of course, this requires a response from the Dutch government. According to Ad.nl refugees who want to enter the Netherlands now have to sign a statement before entering the country. This statement contains Dutch values such as equality between men and women, straight and gay. If they refuse to sign this statement they cannot enter the country.
Ad.nl reports that non-refugees also have to sign the petition. Refusers can get a fine up to 1250 euros and can’t get Dutch citizenship. The so called participation declaration is one of the many new measures that the government presented last Friday. Minister Lodewijk Asscher explains the policy: “People immediately know where they stand. In the Netherlands people live in freedom and we have freedom of religion. If you don’t like it, you have chosen the wrong country.”
What do you think of this new policy in the Netherlands?
